Has he gone broke? See why the 'SONKO Rescue Team' is NO MORE

Wednesday, 16 September 2015 - Flamboyant Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has disbanded his infamous “Sonko Rescue Team”, that has been in operation for nearly three years.

Speaking during his father’s burial ceremony in Machakos, Sonko disclosed that he had made the dramatic decision to get rid of the outfit as one way of reconciling with his bitter rival, Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero.

The Sonko Rescue Team had been applauded by many city residents for offering free services that ranged from car towing, ambulance and hearse services to providing quick rescue services during disasters.

News of the team’s disbandment surprised many people with some raising speculations that Sonko had ran out of cash to keep the team in operation.

But according to Sonko, his move to disband the rescue team and donate its vehicles to the Nairobi County Government stemmed from the need to repay Dr Kidero for all the “support and respect” he had given him since his father’s death.

According to the politician, he could not substantiate the generosity he had received from the Governor when he lost his father.

““I have disbanded the Sonko Rescue Team, all ambulances will henceforth be donated to the Nairobi County government… My father helped me a lot, I remember when Kidero and I had a problem, he called my father who later on called me and asked me to find a working relationship with the governor,” ” Sonko announced in the presence of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Governor Kidero, who was clearly surprised by Sonko’s declaration, later disclosed that the two Nairobi leaders had decided to end their rivalry as requested by their parents.
