In Details:How 2 guards stopped a Bomb Attack at the Garden City Mall: This is incredible

Wednesday, 09 September 2015 - On Tuesday afternoon, shoppers at the Garden City Mall, along Thika Road, were hurriedly evacuated after a man tried to sneak into the mall while carrying an improvised explosive device(IED).

According to Kasarani OCPD Robinson Mboloi, Guards at the mall’s security check point stopped a man as he tried to walk into the shopping center unchecked.

After a brief search, the guards found the IED, which was connected to a mobile phone, raising speculations that the man had planned to bomb the relatively new shopping center.

The Garden City Mall guards then detained the suspect and his two accomplices and called the anti-terrorism police unit (ATPU), who confirmed that indeed the man was carrying an IED.

According to the ATPU, the device contained about 500 grams of explosives.

The three men were the taken into custody for questioning by the ATPU as the IED was later blown up in an open ground by the bomb disposal unit.

Normal operations have since resumed at the mall.
