Julius
Njogu was arrested just minutes after he finished second in the 42 Kilometre men’s
race after organizers noticed that he was too fresh and without a single sweat.
It later emerged that the he had cheated the marathon course as while other athletes
were busy competing on the road, he was hiding in a dustbin close to the finish
line where he jumped out and joined the race to take a podium finish.
Njogu, who
could have easily walked home with Kshs 750,000 had his trick gone unnoticed, however
insisted that he covered the entire course claiming that the organizers made a mistake
when they changed the course mid way through the marathon.
He will be arraigned
in court on Monday.
