Wednesday, 07 October 2015 - Kenya Police Spokesman Charles Owino has cautioned motorists to be careful of a new trend being used by thugs to carjack unsuspecting motorists.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Mr. Owino revealed that there has been a sudden rise in “bump and rob “cases especially in Nairobi, where at least 10 people have been attacked in the past two weeks.
The trend involves, a criminal hitting a motorist from behind and when the motorist stops to assess the damage he/she is violently robbed, mostly at gun-point.
On Sunday night, Mr. Timothy Rotich, a Nairobi resident, fell victim to this dangerous trend that has caught most Nairobi motorists unaware.
While driving along Mayanja Road Rotich's car was hit from behind by another vehicle. But when he stopped to assess the damage, four men - one armed with a pistol - got out of the car and forced him to the back seat of his car.
They then drove around in his a Suzuki Escudo, before finally dumping him along Kangundo Road.
He was robbed sh 10,000 a mobile phone and the car which hasn’t been traced yet.
“We advise members of the public to be very cautious especially at night or in isolated areas. Additional Police officers will be deployed in areas where such incident have been reported,” said the police spokesman.
