This is why club 1824 might 'go down': What their bouncers did is regrettable (Look)

Monday, 26 October 2015 - A popular night club in Nairobi faces eminent closure over what has been termed as gross misconduct of the club’s bouncers and night staff.

The 1824 club, which is located along Langata road, has been accused by many revellers of employing violent staff who are not mindful of their client’s life.

The allegations come after two siblings were mercilessly beaten by club bouncers over what many term as a petty disagreement.

According to eye witnesses, the two men were among a group of revellers who had visited the infamous club to celebrate the graduation of a relative.

However, things took an unexpected turn after one of the men visited the washrooms to vomit after having too much to drink. His involuntary act however angered the club's bouncers who then confronted him. The man was senselessly beaten and properly disfigured by the merciless bouncers.  Worse still, when his sibling tried to defend him, he was also given a brutal beating that left him nursing a dislocated shoulder.
The Student Organisation of Nairobi University (SONU) through its chairman, Babu Owino has now issued a warning that will match to the club’s premises to demonstrate against the continuous harassment and aggressiveness by the club’s bouncers and security personnel.

According to Babu, the club has been unfairly treating the university students as they engage in their extra curricula activities adding that it was within his mandate to ensure that all students peacefully enjoy their leisure activities.

“In the recent past alone, more than a dozen students from University of Nairobi have been beaten, molested, harassed, and dangerously mishandled by bouncers and or staff of Club 1824… As SONU Chairman, I cannot allow this madness to continue. I owe it to my students to maximize their interests by reducing the risks they face in their pursuit for leisure, entertainment and other co-curricular activities,” Babu said.

The demonstrations will take place on Tuesday October 27, 2015 from 7.00am and will begin from UoN Main Campus, through Uhuru Highway to Langata Road up to Club 1824 right past Wilson Airport, and back.
