Maasai Mara
University students were recently sent home for an unknown duration of time following
tribal attacks that left scores injured.
Apparently,
trouble begun after students from the two differing tribes hurled stones at
each other after a football match that was supposed to mark the end of the
cultural week in the Narok based varsity.
Police had to be called in to intervene
and contain the situation.
However,
things went awry wrong the following day when a group said to be from the
Maasai community stormed into a hall where students, predominantly from the Luo
community, were watching an EPL game between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, and
started attacking students haphazardly causing a wild rush out of the hall.
A number of
students were injured during the attack, prompting the administration to close
the varsity.
The violence was witnessed just a day after Pope Francis urged the youth to use their ears, mind and heart to fight tribalism.
