Thursday, August 4, 2022 – A jealous boyfriend has been jailed for dragging his girlfriend 50ft down a road through his car window.

Michael Caine, 23, got angry when long-term girlfriend Hermione Deakin refused his lift home after a party.

She attempted to give him money for his wasted petrol and told him she wanted to stay in the party but Caine said ‘No you’re f***ing not’ and grabbed her arm as she leaned into his car window.

He then gripped his partner before his car ‘went into a wheelspin’ and shot off ’15 metres down the road’, Mold Crown Court, Wales, UK heard.

Prosecutor Ember Wong said Miss Deakin was hanging ‘halfway in and halfway out’ of the car as she was dragged along.

The court heard Caine ‘became fixated’ on who she would be with at the party and what they would be doing in Bangor, North Wales.

He arrived at the party at around 4.30am to collect her but she had ‘changed her mind’ about going home in April last year.

CCTV footage showed her trying to escape Caine’s grip before she hit the ground when the car finally stopped.

The court heard how heard Caine fled the scene while leaving ‘hysterical’ Miss Deakin with scrapped knees ‘covered in blood’.

In a victim impact statement, Miss Deacon said she was left feeling ‘lucky to be alive’, as she ‘could have so easily been squashed between two cars’.

Miss Deakin, who had been in a relationship with Caine for four-and-a-half years, was left with scars and ‘lives in constant fear’ according to her lawyers.

Caine, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and was sentenced to 10 months in prison.

Judge Niclas Parry said: ‘You were in a temper because your partner had dared to change her mind and your controlling behaviour dictated that was not going to happen.

‘You grabbed her by the throat and made it clear in abusive terms that she would be doing what you wanted.

‘These were not simple scratches, they resemble burn injuries as she was dragged along the road.

‘Mercifully, it could have been so much worse had she gone under that car and suffered real catastrophic injuries – or worse.’

He was banned from driving for two years and five months and handed a lifelong restraining order from the victim.
