Peloton tells members it will no longer use KANYE WEST’s music in new gym classes

Friday, October 28, 2022 – American exercise equipment and media company, Peloton has joined the growing list of companies to cut off rapper and fashion designer, Kanye West.

In a statement released Thursday, October 27, Peloton said it “indefinitely paused the use of Kanye West’s music” in its spin bike classes.

In a live spin class on Monday, Peloton’s instructor Alex Toussaint alluded that he would cut Kanye West’s music from his classes.

He told Peloton users: “I want to make sure everyone feels safe in my environment and my classes. I’m not going to speak too much on it because you know I stand with you.

“You will not hear the artist in my class at all, I promise y’all. I do not support hate speech whatsoever.”

Following this, a Peloton spokesperson said:

“We take this issue very seriously and can confirm Peloton indefinitely paused the use of Kanye West’s music on our platform. This means our instructors are no longer using his music in any newly produced classes and we are not suggesting any class that includes his music in our proactive recommendations to members.

“You should know this was a decision we made immediately following his remarks. Again, thank you for sharing your concerns and thank you for being a Member of our Peloton community.”

On October 8 Kanye West tweeted that he would go “death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE.” Defcon was an apparent reference to the US military readiness condition scale.

The tweet continued: “You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda.”

The next day spokespeople from Twitter and Instagram’s parent Meta said that Ye’s messages violated their policies. He was suspended from posting content on the platforms.

On Tuesday October 25, Adidas announced that it had cut ties with Ye, after an investigation into the anti-semitic comments made by the rapper. A statement said: “Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech. Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.”

The same day Gap announced that it was taking further steps to remove all Yeezy collaboration products from its stores – the company cut ties with Kanye West in September.

A statement from the company read: “We are taking immediate steps to remove Yeezy Gap product from our stores and we have shut down YeezyGap.com. Antisemitism, racism and hate in any form are inexcusable and not tolerated in accordance with our values.”
