Friday, February 10, 2023 – In what may be seen as a balance of power, President William Ruto has allocated Musalia Mudavadi’s office more money than Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s office.
In the Supplementary Budget 2022/23 statement released by the Treasury, the Prime Cabinet Secretaries allocation amounted to KSh 751.9 million, while Gachagua has only been given KSh 450.85 million, which is over Sh 300 million difference.
The allocation has caused disquiet in Mt. Kenya, with Kikuyus now seeing it as a move to finish Gachagua politically.
Gachagua and Mudavadi have been fighting a cold war over who is superior to the other in the Kenya Kwanza government structure.
But with the allocations, it is now clear who between the two Ruto trusts the most.
Ruto is walking a tightrope, trying to appease Kikuyus for the many votes that he received from Mt. Kenya in the 2022 elections, as well as the Luhya nation for the 2027 elections.
The president may be shifting his political base from Mt. Kenya to Western, going by his recent actions in the Supplementary Budget.
