Friday, February 10, 2023 – Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued a warning to Kenyans who are spreading false information about the raid of the home of former Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i.
On Wednesday night, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga told Kenyans on live TV that over 20 police officers had raided the home of the former Interior CS in Karen.
However, it emerged that the alleged raid was staged by Azimio leaders to cause panic in the country.
Speaking on Thursday, DCI boss Mohamed Amin said preliminary investigations established Matiang’i stage-managed the raid in a move to incite the public against the government.
“Our preliminary findings have uncovered evidence of a well-coordinated and deliberate attempt to spread false information and incite public fear, unfortunately, spearheaded by a person of the standing of a former Interior Security Cabinet Secretary,” Amin said.
He further said his agency will not tolerate purveyors of false information and will take firm action against all those involved in the matter.
“Peddlers of falsehoods must understand that they will no longer get away with such careless acts targeted at the souls of our cohesion and National Security,” he stated.
