Tuesday, October 24, 2023 – Renowned scholar and columnist, Prof. Makau Mutua, has surprised the Azimio One Kenya Alliance fraternity after he supported last week’s demolition of houses in Mavoko, where over 1000 families were rendered homeless.
The demolitions came after a court sitting in Nairobi ruled that the controversial piece of land belongs to East Africa Portland Cement.
Azimio leaders led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga toured the area last week and condemned the demolition terming, it a crime against humanity.
But Prof. Mutua, who is also a distinguished scholar at Buffalo Law School in New York, said there is no one who is innocent between the buyer and seller of this piece of land and termed both as land grabbers.
Makau also urged President William Ruto’s government not to have pity on thieves.
“On the Mavoko saga, both the buyers and sellers are culpable.
“There aren’t ANY innocent people here.
“The only victims are the Kenyan taxpayers.
“We must put an end to land-grabbing in Kenya by acting without pity on thieves,” Makau wrote on his X platform.
