Singer BEBE REXHA reveals she's been a victim of 'hate crime' for speaking Albanian

Monday, August 19, 2024 - Pop singer Bebe Rexha has come forward with allegations of discrimination at Munich International Airport in Germany, stating that she was a victim of a "hate crime" due to her Albanian heritage.

The "I'm a Mess" singer shared her distressing experience on social media, revealing that she was barred from boarding her Lufthansa flight after a tense encounter with airport security.

Rexha, visibly shaken and in tears, recounted how the incident unfolded. She explained that she initially spoke Albanian to one of the security guards, believing he had spoken the language to her. This interaction, however, reportedly escalated into a confrontation, with the airport staff allegedly threatening her and ultimately preventing her from boarding her flight.

"I believe this to be a hate crime because I am Albanian," Rexha stated in her social media posts. She further claimed that the security personnel continued to "mentally abuse" her, asserting their authority while refusing to provide their names when she attempted to report them. Rexha expressed her frustration that none of the nearby Lufthansa staff intervened during the incident.

The singer, who has strong Albanian roots; her father hails from North Macedonia, where both Macedonian and Albanian are spoken, and her mother is of Albanian descent, was clearly distraught over the experience.

In response, a representative for Lufthansa told TMZ that they are in direct contact with Rexha to understand the full details of the incident. The airline emphasized its commitment to diversity and equal opportunity, noting that connecting people from around the world is a core value of their company.
