'Bob's Burgers' star JAY JOHNSTON sentenced to prison in January 6 Capitol riot case

Tuesday, October 29, 2024 - Jay Johnston, known for voicing Jimmy Pesto on the popular animated show "Bob’s Burgers," has been sentenced to 12 months and a day in federal prison for his involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

His attorney confirmed the sentencing to NBC News on Monday, following Johnston’s guilty plea in July to a charge of obstructing officers during a civil disorder.

Johnston, initially facing up to five years, was arrested in California last summer. Prosecutors cited evidence, including social media posts and text messages, in which Johnston reportedly admitted his presence at the Capitol during the riot. FBI reports also indicated Johnston participated in a "group assault" on officers and helped carry a stolen police riot shield out of the building.

The consequences extended beyond the courtroom, as Johnston was removed from "Bob’s Burgers" in 2021 after a decade with the show.
