Saturday, October 12, 2024 - Spain’s Supreme Court has upheld a €1,080 fine imposed on a man who appeared n@ked at a police station in Valencia and refused repeated requests to put on clothes.
The man, identified in Spanish media as Alejandro Colomar,
had entered the station on August 20, 2020, to file a complaint, despite having
clothes in his backpack.
Although public nudity has been legal in Spain since 1988,
people can be fined for public disturbance if their nud!ty causes discomfort or
disrupts public order. In this case, the provincial court had fined Colomar for
"disobedience" after police officers asked him to get dressed,
stating that his nud!ty was disrupting the normal functioning of the station.
Colomar argued that he had the right to be n@ked, but the
police arrested him after his refusal to comply. His appeal to overturn the
fine was dismissed by the Supreme Court, which ruled on October 3 that the
police’s request was justified to maintain public order and peaceful
coexistence.
Colomar, who has a history of fines for public nud!ty,
gained attention in September 2022 when he attempted to enter a court in
Valencia wearing only boots for a trial related to his public n*dity.
