MARTHA KARUA insists the 2007 presidential election was not rigged – KIBAKI beat RAILA ODINGA fair and square!

Monday, November 18, 2024 - Narc Kenya chairperson, Martha Karua, has dismissed claims that the 2007 presidential election was rigged in favour of late former President Mwai Kibaki.

During an interview on Citizen TV on Monday, Karua insisted that Kibaki did not steal ODM leader Raila Odinga's votes in the highly contested election.

Karua said that even though the Kriegler report in 2008 said it was not clear who won the election, the electoral commission's results showed Kibaki emerged victorious.

She noted that, based on the findings of the Kriegler report, the late president defeated Raila but by a small margin.

"What Kriegler said is that both sides were guilty of inflating the votes, so it wouldn't make sense to even try to find out who won, meaning that the electoral rules had been violated in such a big way that really you may not be able to get to the bottom of the matter.

"But if you're asking from the votes Kivuitu announced, I'll tell you straight, Kibaki won. And I'll tell you also that there was a group, and Kriegler is public, anybody can read, he had a very small margin," Karua said.

According to Karua, another analysis by a top US professor also pointed to the fact that Kibaki won the 2007 presidential election.

She added that it is unfair for people to continue claiming Raila's votes were stolen in 2007.

"There's another group from the US, a top professor. They also tried to remove what they saw as excessive votes from either side, like if any polling station had above 80%.

"Using that method to audit the election, they still found Kibaki had won by a small margin. So who is fooling who when we keep on hearing the narrative of a stolen election?" she posed.
