Friday, 21 January 2022 – Detectives have recovered pieces of high masts and pylons belonging to Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), which were vandalized in Emabakasi, plunging the country into a blackout.
They were recovered from unscrupulous businessmen in the Gikomba market in Nairobi.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has since banned export and dealings in scrap metals until proper guidelines are put in place to regulate the sector.
There has been an increase in vandalism, mainly on power lines across the country, leading to frequent power shortages.
Last Tuesday, a breakdown at Kenya Power’s transmission line caused a blackout that affected customers across major cities in the country.
Below are photos of the vandalized high masts and pylons that were recovered in Gikomba.
