Daylight robbery as Chinese man loses Sh 5.2 Million to two armed men while heading to the bank – Police suspect it’s an inside job.

Friday, February 11, 2022 – A Chinese national was robbed of Sh 5.2 Million by two men who were armed with knives in South B estate.

The victim, identified as Shan Xiu Min, an accountant at a company owned by Chinese nationals, was taking the money to a local bank along Mombasa Road when the incident happened.

He was being driven to the bank by the company’s driver and when they reached the Bellevue area at around 11 am, the driver branched off Mombasa Road and drove into South B estate, claiming that he had been flagged down by police.

The driver came to a halt almost a kilometer from the highway.

Two men who were armed with knives emerged from the blue and approached the car.

They threw the Chinese out of the car before driving away with the driver.

Nairobi deputy police Chief James Mugera confirmed the incident and said investigations have been launched.

He believes the attack was carried out by insiders.

Mugera said efforts to track down the driver are ongoing.

“We are investigating it, but it seems the said thieves knew about the money,” he said.
