Monday, February 21, 2022 – National Assembly Majority leader and Kipipiri MP, Amos Kimunya, has sought to set the record straight on why President Uhuru Kenyatta dumped Deputy President William Ruto and instead opted to support ODM Leader Raila Odinga for president, despite having been his bitter rival in the last General Election.
Speaking during an interview, Kimunya revealed that Ruto is untrustworthy and unfit to lead the country, that’s why Uhuru settled on Raila as his successor.
According to Kimunya, after working with both Raila and Ruto, Uhuru realized that the ODM boss is the best person to lead the country once he retires.
“The President might have asked himself, of the two candidates (Ruto and Raila) who can I safely leave this country to?
“It is not about the president pushing Raila to the people, it is about the president feeling his admiration for Raila and saying, ‘ill support you to vis-à-vis the person who has betrayed me,” he said.
“Mt Kenya people should ask themselves what are the fundamental things that went wrong between the president and his deputy such that he is now marketing the person he told us that was bad.
“This means that his deputy might be worse than the person he told us that was bad (Raila),” he added.
Kimunya said that President Uhuru endured a lot of difficulties in his first term when he was still close to DP Ruto.
The lawmaker claimed that it was during the first term that the country witnessed a high number of cases of corruption.
He also claimed that the president was tired of Ruto’s doublespeak trait as well as his constant campaigns hence causing their breakup.
