Wednesday, March 16, 2022 – Deputy President William Ruto has blasted President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration accusing it of excessive borrowing that needs to be investigated.
Speaking on Tuesday at Kasarani Indoor Arena during the UDA National Delegates Convention, Ruto blamed the handshake for aiding in the plundering of the economy through massive borrowing.
“The only thing I can remember on matters to do with an economy that the handshake has done is to borrow 7 trillion in the 5 years, It is a tragedy that we must investigate,” Ruto said.
“Our competitors are telling us it is okay to have debt. But we must not be slaves of debt. Debt must be the last resort,” the DP added.
The second in command further accused President Uhuru of what he termed as State capture, saying there is a need to free independent institutions from monopoly by a few individuals.
“Our competitors are the agents of monopolies. They are the masters of conflict of interest. They are the agents of state capture and we must free this country,”“They believe that this nation should be about a few people who wield the levers of State power. This country is not just about leaders. This country is about 50 million Kenyans.” Ruto said.
If elected President on August 9,Ruto promised to introduce integrity at the Kenya Revenue Authority, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission saying the institutions are currently only serving political interests.
“On our first day we will free the DCI, we will free the KRA from the State capture; they have weaponized DCI, KRA, and the EACC to run political errands,” Ruto said as his supporters cheered him on.
Ruto’s big day was attended by leaders from other political parties among them Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya), Mwangi Kiunjuri (TSP), and Moses Kuria (CCK).
Others were Jimi Wanjigi (Safina), Isaac Ruto of Chama Cha Mashinani, and Tujibebe Wakenya leader, William Kabogo.
