Wednesday, March 16, 2022 – ODM leader, Raila Odinga, has revealed that he will hire President Uhuru Kenyatta as his personal advisor, among other job offers if he wins the August 9th presidential elections.
Speaking during an interview with BBC’s Sophie Ikenye, on Tuesday, the former Prime Minister said even though the Head of State will be retiring, he will still have some other roles to play in Kenya’s political space.
He said other than vying for the presidency, the Kenyan Constitution does not bar President Uhuru from serving his country in other capacities such as working as a diplomat. “Yes, he will be an advisor just as I have done in his Government. He can also focus on helping us with advice on the economy and he can take up roles such as mine in foreign diplomacy. There are many roles President Kenyatta can take up after his retirement,” Raila Odinga said.
Raila’s confirmation about the responsibilities he may give to President Uhuru after his retirement comes even as Kenya Kwanza leaders led by Deputy President William Ruto have been warning Kenyans against electing Raila as President.
According to ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, President Uhuru Kenyatta is heavily supporting his handshake partner to take over from him so that he can use him as a tool to rule the country even after his retirement.
Mudavadi who was speaking on Tuesday, during UDA’s National Delegates Convention, called on Kenyans to elect a leader who will not be a puppet of the minority but who will work for Kenyans.
“We do not want a puppet regime or puppet leaders. We do not want a remote-controlled leader in Kenya; we want a leader who is hands-on,” Musalia Mudavadi said.
