Friday, February 10, 2023 – Manchester City star, Ilkay Gundogan and his wife Sara have sent aid to Turkey to help support victims of the devastating earthquake in the country.

More than 17,000 people have been killed and thousands more injured after a catastrophic 7.8-magnitude earthquake rocked Turkey and Syria earlier this week, while millions have been left homeless.

Concerns have grown for people trapped under the rubble as thousands of rescue workers continue to search for survivors.

German football star, And Gundogan and his wife are keen to do all they can to help in the efforts to deal with the disaster.

Recall that the Man City midfielder has roots in the country, having been born in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, to Turkish parents. His father Irfan worked in Balikesir before he moved to Germany.

According to German outlet BILD, Gundogan and his partner have donated two truckloads of bread to help those who have been impacted.

His father is reportedly on-site in Balikesir to take care of the transport.

In relation to the donation, Gundogan said: ‘My family and I were very busy with the events. Our thoughts are now with the people in the crisis areas.

‘It is essential that we all stick together now. The people depend on our help. The encouragement and support we have received so far has been great!

‘We are currently trying to collect further food and material donations in the form of baby food, blankets, hygiene products, and warm clothing.

‘We will then arrange for transport to Turkey in coordination with the Turkish Embassy in London.’

Gundogan’s partner Sara also urged people to do all they can to help those in need.

She added: ‘We send our help to the victims of the earthquake. At the moment they have no electricity and no food.

‘We sent two trucks with bread, but they need blankets, groceries and more if any of our friends or followers want to donate with us.’
