You won’t believe the school fee some people pay: Top 10 expensive schools in Kenya

Monday, 21 September 2015 - Over the past three weeks, the Kenyan education sector has been thrown into a crisis following a national wide teacher’s strike that has so far seen schools-both private and public-shut down indefinitely.

The strike is aimed at pushing the teacher’s employer, TSC, to implement a pay rise as ordered by the courts.

But as most parents in the country continue to lament over the crisis, there are those who are oblivious of what is going on in the education sector as their kids are still going to school.

These are parents with children who school in the most affluent institutions where school fees per term ranges between Kshs 675K and Kshs 2M!

Most of these schools offer the IGCSE curriculum, meaning they remain unaffected by the ongoing teacher’s strike as according to the Education Ministry’s public relations officer, Mr Kennedy Buhere, schools that are affected by the closure order are those that offer 8-4-4 education system and are registered with the Kenya National Examination Council.
