Saturday, January 22, 2022 – Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has shocked his supporters after he threatened to abandon his presidential quest in August.
Speaking in Homa Bay County on Friday while popularising his presidential bid, Raila said he may drop his presidential ambitions due to low voter registration numbers in the Nyanza region.
Raila particularly singled out his perceived strongholds of Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, Busia and Homa bay counties.
“I will not vie for presidency in August if you don’t register as voters in huge numbers,” Raila told a mammoth rally in Homa Bay County.
New voter turnout is low due to a general feeling of voter apathy. Many Kenyans are feeling disillusioned by the political leaders, who do nothing substantial after winning elective seats.
For example, in the Mt Kenya region, there is a very low voter enlisting that has not been experienced in the region in the last three decades.
