Friday, 18 March 2022 – It’s now emerging that the rogue driver who was caught on camera beating up a police officer along Mombasa Road was drunk.
According to social media reports, the dramatic incident started when the traffic cop approached the motorist and urged him to tow his stalled BMW since it was causing traffic jam along the busy road.
Instead of following the cop’s orders, the drunk motorist unleashed kicks and blows on the helpless cop.
The cop reportedly lost a tooth during the altercation.
Boda Boda riders were forced to intervene and rescue the cop from the rogue motorist to avoid further altercation.
The motorist was later arrested.
Assaulting a police officer is a very serious offence in Kenya.
According to Section 103 (a) of the National Police Service Act No. 11 (A) of 2011, offences related to assault of police can attract a fine not exceeding 1 million shillings, imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years, or both.
The video of the assault incident has since gone viral.
