Tuesday, October 24, 2023 – The Kenya Meteorological Department has maintained that Kenya will experience high levels of rainfall this week.
This comes even as President William Ruto ruled out the possibility of the country experiencing El Nino like was the case in 1997.
In an update, the department indicated that rainfall is expected to continue over several parts of the country, with the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and North-eastern Kenya likely to experience isolated storms.
“High average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius are expected over several parts of the country including the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya,” read the statement in part.
“A few areas in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley will experience low average night-time (minimum) temperatures of less than 10 degrees Celsius.”
While addressing a congregation during a church service in Riruta on Sunday, Ruto noted that the country would not experience severe El Nino effects.
The Head of State indicated that the meteorologists had rescinded their earlier projection predicting the possibility of El Nino rains.
In an earlier projection, the Kenya Meteorological Department had indicated that Kenya would experience El Nino between the months of October and December.
